 2018 Preview 


       Clarke County completed the 2017 season with a 11-3 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 3A region one, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Clarke County made a nice playoff run in 2017, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Hillcrest Evergreen team by the score of 20-14.

       The Bulldogs won as many games as in any season since 2007. The 474 points scored by the Bulldogs last year were a team record in a single season. The Bulldogs hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Luker saw improvement as they won eleven games following a 4-6 record in 2016.

       Since 2010, Clarke County has gone a combined 45-43. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Clarke County has managed to compile a record of 157-109. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 4A and 102nd in the AHSAA.




       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Stacy Luker who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 11-3 record in his first season at Clarke County. The Bulldogs saw improvement from a 4-6 record the season before coach Luker arrived. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Luker.

       Coach Luker's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-two season stands at 199-76 (72.4%). His 199 wins rank 12th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Luker's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nineteen times and won ten region championships. He has a 45-14 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches. Coach Luker won five state championships prior to arriving at Clarke County, the last coming in 2010 at .

       Coach Luker needs just one win this season to reach the coveted 200 win milestone.

       The Clarke County Bulldogs will play in Class 4A region one during the 2018 season. The Bulldogs move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. The Bulldogs have one of the toughest schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 75-43 last season. That ranks 3rd in Class 4A and 17th in the AHSAA. Clarke County will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

       Region one will be one of the most competitive regions in any classification this season.

       The Bulldogs enter the 2018 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak. They have won 6 straight games on their home turf at H.G. Prim Stadium. The Bulldogs will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region one this season.

      

       The Bulldogs open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Jackson on Thursday, August 30 at Legion Field. Last year the Jackson Aggies finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in third place in Class 5A region one. The Aggies lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Calera by a score of 28-27.

       Clarke County and Jackson have met a total of 106 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 31-68-7 record against the Aggies. They last met in 2017 with Jackson winning by a score of 40-28.

       Clarke County returns 3A All-State  defensive back Javon Ivory. He was named to the first team last season.
